Web development glossary for online marketing business entrepreneurs


TCP: An acronym for Transmission Control Protocol, the communication standard adopted for error-free connection between computers over an intranet or the Internet.

Table Layout: Web developers utilize tables to in laying out a web page's look and feel to have better control over the placement of the graphic images.

Template Web Design: A web design using templates to create the layout and architecture of a web page. Web content can be added to the templated web pages or some website templates come with a large percent of the web content added. Custom websites also use templates to create a web design that allows for web maintenance and edits on the fewest number of pages and be propagated out instantaneously to all pages created on that template.

Title: The text that appears at the top of the web browser window when a page is loaded. Used by the search engines to index the page. Another element that is all to often overlooked by businesses building a website in-house using web design templates.

Trojan Horse: Malicious software programs, secreted in what appears to be benign software programs, when activated can destroy system and data files, record and transmit a businesses files, or transmit information regarding the computer's use back t the owner of the trojan horse.

URL: An acronym for Uniform Resource Locator, the standard for denoting a website's address.

User Agent: A software program utilized to find and download web content found on the Internet. Typical user agents are web browsers, text browsers, voice browsers, mobile phones (when used to browse the Internet), and multimedia players

User Style Sheets: A Cascading Style Sheet that can be created by a web user to override a browser default style sheets and the style sheets used in a website's web design. User style sheets are useful assisting people with visual or auditory impairments access more of websites.

Validation: Code validation is a method of double-checking a web design's HTML, XML or CSS code to make sure it is compliant with W3C standards.
